A 4th Quarter Rally to Remember

By Bill Wagner (Annapolis Capitol):
"Saturday's improbable win was uplifting because the coaches and players had
to dig deep. It took a ton of heart, determination and effort to mount the
furious fourth quarter rally. When it was over, one could tell from the
euphoria displayed by everyone associated with the program that this was the
type of victory that could change the direction of an entire season."

A fitting tribute to those who fell

While the hotlinked webpage (click on the title line above) was posted to honor the sacrifice of CTT1 Daugherty - Woodrow Wilson's tribute from 1914 is as fitting now as it was then:
"In May of 1914 President Woodrow Wilson spoke at the Brooklyn Navy Yard with expressed purpose of saluting those who had recently lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Navy. His words were meant for the people of that time but they are equally applicable to men like Petty Officer Daugherty whose service and sacrifice help to preserve freedom in this day and time.

Have you thought of it, men? Here is the roster of the Navy—the list of the men, officers and enlisted men and Marines—and suddenly there swim nineteen stars out of the list—men who have suddenly been lifted into a firmament of memory where we shall always see their names shine, not because they called upon us to admire them, but because they served us, without asking any questions and in the performance of a duty which is laid upon us as well as upon them."

Newark Star Ledger - A nice tribute after Rutgers Game

Booing Military Schools unacceptable
by Tom Luicci [ Newark Star Ledger ]
Monday September 10, 2007, 4:00 PM

It's hard to be too critical of Rutgers fans with the way they have turned
out in record numbers lately, but there is one reason to be:

Whoever among them booed lustily when the Navy players came onto the field
on Friday night should be sentenced to a week in Iraq.

The noise was clearly audible, and that's a shame. Booing college opponents
is acceptable with three exceptions: Army, Navy and Air Force.

Whatever your feelings are on the war, those are the men who will put their lives on theline for us after they finish college. If anything, they deserve a standing
ovation whenever they take the field.
Wanting to beat them is one thing;
booing them is a disgrace.
